Nanny Jack & Co.

This bookmark, which comes with a beige braided tassel on one end, was made from an authentic Jim Crow sign in use throughout the Southern United States from the 1860's through the 1970's.  Why would anyone want to keep around a reminder of such  pain and oppression?  Philip Merrill's answer:  To remind us of the victories we have won, which in turn can give us hope as we face the challenges of the future.  (Also see the "Colored" note pads.)
