In these two photos, author Alex Haley is pictured standing beside San Francisco socialite Pat Montandon.  Montandon, the second wife of famed lawyer Melvin Belli, was renowned in San Francisco for her lavish parties.  (Her first book was titled How to be a Party Girl.)  Later, her life took a more serious turn, as she formed a foundation, Children as Peacemakers, to foster peace through the children of the world.   This work caused her to be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.  To learn more about Ms. Montandon, click here.
