Speaking Engagements

Philip J. Merrill is a dynamic speaker who can not only inform but move  an audience with his encyclopedic knowledge of African American history.  He is particularly inspiring when relating the often untold stories of achievement and victory by a people despite overwhelming odds against them.  Presentations can be tailored to the requirements of different audiences and made more interesting by the addition of fascinating artifacts from Merrill's vast collection.

To book Philip for a speaking engagement or presentation, contact Voices of Diversity at www.voicesofdiversity.com.   Please do not contact Nanny Jack directly for such requests; we will only refer you to Voices of Diversity.

Exhibit Consultations

We consult with agencies and museums across the country to create unique African American exhibits.  (For example, Philip Merrill is presently a consultant to the Smithsonian Institiution's Anacostia Museum & Center for African American History and Culture.  Click here, then click on "Collectors", then click on Philip's picture at the bottom of the webpage.)   We have the capability to produce striking graphic artistry and DVDs or videotapes to augment an exhibit.  In addition to providing advice and guidance, we can use our extensive archives to mount entire exhibits from scratch or augment exhibits based on clients' collections.

Brokering Services

We can provide a ready marketplace for the sale of unique and historically significant African American artifacts.  (See our Marketplace page for some items that we are brokering for clients.)  Not only will we list your item on our website, but we will alert our database of potential buyers (museums and other institutions, as well as individual collectors, with special interests in African American artifacts) of the availability of your special item.  We have an open and flexible auction format: no up-front listing fees, no limitations on how long the item can be listed for sale, and the seller can choose who (s)he sells to and for how much.

Image Rentals
We frequently license film and dramatic production companies, publishers and others to use images of artifacts from the extensive Nanny Jack collection to lend an air of historic authenticity to a production or publication.  Our extensive and eclectic collection of artifacts can meet virtually any need for such images.  (For an example of one of our licensed images, click here, then click on "Photos" at the top of the page.  The first image that comes up is one that was licensed by Nanny Jack to this important work on African American fraternities and sororities.)

Many people need or desire to know the value of the African American artifacts and Black memorabilia in their possession, whether for the purpose of an estate valuation or simply to determine whether it is worthwhile to sell the item.  Or maybe you just want to learn more about the item and its historical significance.  Whatever your need, why not come to the man who created the Black Memorabilia category and served as an appraiser for over 6  years on the PBS show, Antiques Roadshow?  We will research the item and provide you with the most accurate and reliable information available   about your artifact.
