#FAMU (Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University)

#FAMC (Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College)

Real photo postcard of 1915 FAMC Football 🏈 Team, from the extensive collection of Alachua, Florida born #DrOgbonNapoleonSimmons, a #WorldWarI medic, a member of #OmegaPsiPhiFraternityInc, a doctor in #WashingtonDC for many years, and very active in the #YMCA. This collection is within the Nanny Jack & Co Archives.

Ogbon Simmons, sitting in the front with the football in his lap, was captain of the football team in 1915 and was nicknamed "Big Chief", according to the 1915-1916 FAMC College Arms magazine.

Athletics at FAMU, then known as FAMC (Florida Agricultural & Mechanical College) came under faculty supervision in 1899, with football as one of the inaugural sports.

In 1913, FAMC became a charter member of the #SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association), a southern version of the #CIAA, then known as the Colored Intercollegiate Athletic Association. Today it's known as the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
