#HazelJuanaDiaz (1908-1997)



Hazel Diaz was born in #BaltimoreMD to #AnthonyDiaz, a #PuertoRican tobacco warehouse employee, and #AnnaDiaz, a laundress. The family lived at #937StirlingStreet. During the 1940s, she lived at #602NorthArlingtonAve (the image of her on the steps with the dog). The second image is autographed.


Diaz was a talented actress, singer, and dancer who was well know for her role in two #OscarMicheaux films, "Swing" and "Birthright." She performed in #BaltimoreMD, #ClevelandOhio, #HarlemNY, #ChicagoIL, #BostonMA and #Panama.


The #BaltimoreAfroAmerican, #PittsburghCourier, and the #NewYorkAge described her as a "charismatic, multi-talented performer."
